A Portrait Of Art Blakey

I started out drawing this on my iPad Pro then went to traditional charcoal on Strathmore 500 Mixed Media heavy paper. I was ok with the outcome but then I returned to the digital version and completed the digital version early this morning. Both versions took about the same time but the traditional version is a lot smaller than the digital.

Portrait of Art Blakey

I started out drawing this on my iPad Pro then went to traditional charcoal on Strathmore 500 Mixed Media heavy paper. I was ok with the outcome but then I returned to the digital version and completed the digital version early this morning. Both versions took about the same time but the traditional version is a lot smaller than the digital.

I’m happier with the results of the digital version, of course Procreate offers the luxury of backing up and or adjusting ad infinitum so I was able to clean it up and get a little closer to the likeness.

Again I am not looking for photo-realism or even stark accuracy as much as I’m trying to achieve a believable work. I’d like to get even looser with my lines and shapes and still keep a close representation. I’m still working on it. I hope you enjoy this
