Charcoal Study #2 Traditional - Hair

Charcoal study from reference found on Pinterest. The exercise was trying to get a nice organic hair on the model. Work was Alphacolor, and Conte crayon, with Nitram charcoal powder. I used a Hake brush to soften up the work. Prints Available

Charcoal study using Alphacolor black charcoal, Conte Crayon and Nitram Charcoal powder on Strathmore 500 Smooth Vellum. This conventional drawing was done using photo reference found in Pinterest. The work is an exercise and not for sale.

I was trying to work on how I’d like to present hair. And though I’ve gotten a few compliments on it I’m still working on finishing my conventional pieces without them looking over worked. I’ll be producing more of these during the year, more studies until I come up with a good composition that I want to work out.

I tend to like surrealism, expressionism/impressionism more than realism. I look forward to getting comfortable with working up some ideas on the easel.
