A digital painting of a friends self portrait. This created using Art Rage on the iPad 2 with a Wacom Stylus. This work was exhibited with a 1 in 100 best group at a gallery in Palo Alto, Ca, a few years ago
I met Marcy in South Florida when I lived there. We were both members of a Fishing Forum as well as a Fishing Club. She is an artist as well and does some excellent work though I don’t know if she’s showing any at this time. She is a prolific FB poster and post lots of selfies from her active lifestyle. If I were still down their, I’d probably ask her to sit in for a session or two.
This particular shot was right down the center of what I was wanting to paint at the time. My mind was looking for RED, and I started looking at some dancing images flamenco styles in particular, but as beautiful as they are they were too complex for me at the time and Marcy posted this... A simple red dress and an awesome message to go with it.
Thanks Marcy, if you see this. I will always keep my eyes peeled on your post to see if there is something that strikes my imagination. Shouldn’t be too hard, you’d be an excellent muse.
This was made using the oil painting tools in ArtRage. I originally used a canvas texture but removed it for giclee printing on canvas so I would not have any odd patterns. When I first got this particular app I used the palatte knife quite a bit and I was generally pleased with the results. But I noticed some odd color shifting when blending in any tool that tended to make a piece look overworked.
I still keep ArtRage in my toolbox, I’m waiting for improvements on the iPad version of the application.
