Available Originals, Open and Limited Editions prints. I left the blog pages available for those of you who are interested in seeing the text and videos that accompany the images. There is even a place for you to comment if you feel like there is something to be said. I've limited my main gallery to works that are available for purchase.
This isn’t the first time I’ve tried to draw this young model. I don’t recall her name or I’d offer it. The reference image is from a set of model test images I created when I had my photo studio in Las Vegas back in the early 1990’s. This time I think I rendered a pretty good resemblance of the reference. I used Procreate with my favorite charcoal pack and substrate.
This is an example of where my head goes when I’m not doing a study. I like drawing these kind of things but I’m afraid that I the work would be categorized as a cartoon, so I work with a lot of studies to try to bring it back into a more serious realm, whatever that is, and for whatever it’s worth.
This drawing is from one of my personal photo references. I’m going to start using more images from my personal catalog instead of the amazing image references I find on the internet. I originally got into photography so I could create a reference library for my illustration when I was still doing pen and ink and airbrush illustrations so long ago. I have tons of images I could reference and I’m going to start using that resource.
I’m still in the process of loosening up my work. I hope to one day achieve the desired expression with minimal strokes and indications of shading and color. I’m finding it difficult not to work back into something to try to give it more of what the reference seems to dictate. So what I’ve been trying to do is find the gesture and work from there.
Self-portrait originally done on an older iPad 3 with a Wacom stylus. I revisited this work on my iPad Pro with Apple Pencil using an assortment of 3rd party Charcoal brushes. I particularly like the "paper" textures that came with it.
