My Latest Work
Facial Study, Young Girl
December 12, 2021
This isn’t the first time I’ve tried to draw this young model. I don’t recall her name or I’d offer it. The reference image is from a set of model test images I created when I had my photo studio in Las Vegas back in the early 1990’s. This time I think I rendered a pretty good resemblance of the reference. I used Procreate with my favorite charcoal pack and substrate
I am Kyle Vernon,
I am currently playing around with techniques that allow me the freedom of using digital devices to draw and paint not necessarily more easily but more fearlessly. My plan is to merge digital with traditional, not necessarily “embellishing” but using the digital as an underpainting and glazing color and detail on top.
I’m working with a variety of surfaces as outputted substrate, suited to the work. And using pastels (right now) and attempting to glaze with them. I’m doing this to create an original painting. I suppose it would be classified as mixed media.
You may have missed these...
Right now there aren't hundreds of works for you to have to go into page after page of archive to retrieve. I'm taking this rebuild kind of slow and I'll only be including work that I think should be here, not every little thing that I do. So if you are an early viewer you can watch this grow.
I won't push you to subscribe, though it would make it easier to keep up in the future. Since I'm not producing a work every day or even every week, I won't be "nagging" you to come visit. Just when I have done something new that I think you might be interested in. So don't worry about missing anything, you won't have to dig too deep, yet.
Another Self Portrait that kind of reflects my mood at the time. I was a paramedic two years at this point and I’ve seen a lot of things, a lot of darkness that kind of weighs on you. I didn’t go into blindly I was an EMT for 4 years already so I knew what I was getting into. But as a medic you are responsible for the lives of the people who call on you and the staff you are working with. It gets heavy.
This illustration was a throwback to my old pre-college and college days when I wanted to illustrate for Heavy Metal Magazine. I was real big into sci-fi, H.R. Giger, Moebius, and Druillet. I dedicated a lot of time to working out wild story lines and drew up the occasional pen and ink panel but they were never to my satisfaction for consideration to be used in HM Mag, I was aware at the time that they were using mostly French/European artist at the time. I also was enthralled like everyone else in art school, with Frank Frazetta, and Kelly. And I also was big on Vargas, Elvgren, Soriyama and
A Creole Woman #3 - Introspection
This drawing is from one of my personal photo references. I’m going to start using more images from my personal catalog instead of the amazing image references I find on the internet. I originally got into photography so I could create a reference library for my illustration when I was still doing pen and ink and airbrush illustrations so long ago. I have tons of images I could reference and I’m going to start using that resource.
